Canterbury Cathedral Collection now searchable at Find My Past

I was taken by surprise today when I wanted to browse the Canterbury Cathedral Collection at Find My Past – it took me to a search page!

Yes, finally we appear to have searchable indexes of these Kent records – and just in time for Who Do You Think You Are LIVE! this weekend. Apt timing?

I was getting quite used to browsing the records, and had gathered quite a spreadsheet of which images referenced which dates etc.

Kent parish records get digital boost …

A recent announcement by Brightsolid, the publishers of FindMyPast.co.uk, indicates that they have entered an arrangement with Canterbury Cathedral Archives to provide digital access to their Kent parish records. This coincides with the closure of the Archives for roof repairs until autumn 2012.

Records will be rolled out gradually, and will include Thanet, coastal towns from Whitstable round to Hythe, and one would assume eventually all Kent PRs held at CCA. Initially, only scans will be viewable, but indexes are promised to follow.

It is not clear whether Bishop Transcripts and/or Archbishop Transcripts will be included.

Online source finding produces more relatives

Today I found an online source for parish record transcriptions of Hastingleigh, Kent, and its surrounding parishes. This has produced quite a few more BARROWS 4 x great aunts and uncles in Stelling Minnis nearby!

Find the records via http://www.hastingleigh.com/ !
